Leawood Forest Winger, Modou Lamin

Leawood Forest Football Club has secured the signing of talented Gambian winger, Modou Lamin, who will also represent the local KC Gambian national team. The exciting addition to the squad has fans buzzing with anticipation as Lamin gears up to wear the iconic number 10 jersey for Leawood Forest.

To introduce the new winger to the fans, we caught up with Modou and delved into his football journey leading up to this significant move. When asked about his early days in the soccer city of Bakau, The Gambia, Modou shared, "Growing up, I was always considered one of the best among my peers. I played my youth soccer for Junior Border, one of the top teams alongside OSLO FC, our biggest rivals."

However, Modou's journey took an unexpected turn when he migrated to the United States in 2013, settling first in Seattle and later in Kansas in 2016. Despite facing some challenges, his passion for the game persisted. In 2023, he made a triumphant return to the field, leading Team GAMBIA as the top goal scorer in the KCAFF World Cup tournament.

As the right winger for Leawood Forest, Modou Lamin brings a dynamic playing style to the team. "As a winger, I have so much pace, skills, and flair, and I'm a good passer and goal scorer," Modou explained. "I like to cut in and beat defenders with pace to create clear goal-scoring opportunities or assists. I also play forward and both flanks."

Fans are eager to witness Modou's flair and goal-scoring prowess on the field, and he revealed that his style is inspired by a mix of pace, skill, and versatility. When asked about footballers he looks up to, Modou mentioned, "I admire players who bring a combination of speed and skill to the game, like Mohamed Salah and Raheem Sterling."

Fannies in Kansas City, MO

Off the field, Modou shared a glimpse into his cultural background, emphasizing the importance of food. When asked about his favorite Gambian dish, he replied, "Food is a big part of culture. My favorite Gambian dish is Mbahal, peanut butter stew and okra soup." As for finding a taste of home in Kansas City, Modou expressed his excitement that My Village Grill or Fannies West African Cuisine are places in Kansas City that serve dishes similar to those from his homeland.

Leawood Forest FC's inaugural season kicks off in April 2024, and club owner Brandon Fisher expressed confidence in Modou Lamin's abilities, stating, "Modou has a lot of skills that will really give us a lethal attack combined with Parkes and Primo up front. We're thrilled to have him on board for this exciting chapter in our club's history."
